Indonesia Cancels Narcotics Case of an Australian Businessman Tony Haritos.
Bali – The case of an Australian businessman Tony Haritos suspected of possessing drugs when his boat was arrested for entering Indonesian territory has been canceled.
The Tony Haritos Case :
- Police said they found a number of methamphetamine pills when checking Tony Haritos sailboat.
- Haritos was initially brought to Sumba Island and then to Bali.
- According to his lawyer, he was discharged from the hospital in early December.
Thus the statement of Haritos lawyer Edward Pangkahila to the Haritos family on Saturday (12/07/2019).
Tony Haritos was sailing around West Timor last July when his catamaran suffered engine damage near Sabu Island, and the sailboat then drifted towards Sumba.
He suffered a severe back injury in the boat before then a local fisherman saw the boat a few days later and then asked for help.
Indonesian authorities then saved Haritos and took him to the hospital.
But when officers checked the boat later, local police said they found a small amount of methamphetamine.
Being treated in Sumba and Bali
Haritos was initially taken to Pulau Sumba after being rescued.
But in August he was transferred to a hospital in Bali to get better treatment.
In a statement, Haritos lawyer Edward Pangkahila said his case had been canceled in November.
However, Haritos only received a letter regarding the cancellation of his case on Saturday.
According to Pangkahila, Haritos was discharged from the hospital in early December, and is now still undergoing treatment after police no longer handle his case.
