Bali’s most instagrammed pool club Mrs Sippy

Bali’s most instagrammed pool club Mrs Sippy is one of the island’s coolest day clubs in the heart of Seminyak. Water laps, house music trills, bikini bods sizzle and you sip Mango Daquiris by the pool. Before you even mention the 5 metre diving board (and charcoal cuisine), Mrs Sippy is already Instagram Nirvana.Bali's most instagrammed pool club Mrs Sippy

A Mediterranean-inspired Oasis in the heart of Seminyak, Mrs Sippy plays host to the largest saltwater pool in Bali, is one of the island’s coolest day clubs and has inspired 18,000 Instagram posts in its honor (60,000, if you include the generic #MrsSippy as well as #MrsSippyBali). But while many tourist institutions, over the years, have been skewered for being too haughty (see: A.A Gill’s Tour De Gall) or phoney (see Carina Chocano’s The Coast Of Utopia), Mrs Sippy doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is.

Bali's most instagrammed pool club Mrs Sippy

This was a disaster for your correspondent, who had arrived hoping to prick the bubble of the Australian dream. Looking for irritating influencers and hypocritical expats at every turn, I was disappointed to find clumps of friends from all over the world chilling on sun loungers, drinking ice cold beers (delivered in eskies), eating (premium) ‘surf n turf’, and jumping off the diving board. As the day progressed people took to the floating beanbags and began mingling in the pool.Of course, it’s no different to any other Australian-owned business in Bali in that it exploits the cheaper lifestyle costs of a location like Indonesia to turn a profit. But there are worse places than Mrs Sippy.
Despite a rocky start which involved legal disputes over building permits, Mrs Sippy employs local staff and, in terms of the dream they are selling, is refreshingly upfront – chill in the sun, listen to nice tunes – pretend you’re in Bondi, but without the stress.
Also, while there may have been one or two Instagram personalities there, despite their reputation, they didn’t bother anybody. The sad thing is, while Australians may rave about Mrs Sippy to their close friends, due to the ~basic~ reputation of sipping cocktails with other tourists rather than doing a boutique grass roots guided tour around Ubud (presumably with other tourists), or getting your wallet stolen by monkeys in Uluwatu, most are sheepish to admit they went to The Land Of The Gods and got crunk by the pool.Perhaps there’s a good reason for this. But there’s also a good reason to celebrate honesty, which is why we’d rate Mrs Sippy over anywhere that pretends to offer a true local experience to assuage your conscience, then offers you much the same inauthentic, touristy experience (see: the token spiritual ceremonies provided in most high end Bali hotels).

Bali's most instagrammed pool club Mrs Sippy

So while A.A. Gill wrote that Brits and Americans “From Bill Clinton to Woody Allen” would continue returning to “the worst restaurant in the world” because they felt obliged to submit themselves to an authentic, sadistic, French experience, we’d argue that Australians do the opposite in Mrs Sippy. From Double Bay influencers to Surry Hills uni students, Australians will continue visiting Mrs Sippy, because it is so defiantly inauthentic that it is… authentic. And rather than trying to keep it a secret or a “please don’t write about it” Bistro a la L’Ami Louis, we will happily, and authentically, keep on posting and posing about it (though on our stories, not our feeds – we’re not heathens, for heaven’s sake).

That’s once reality resumes, of course. In the meantime: live vicariously.it’s no different to any other Australian-owned business in Bali in that it exploits the cheaper lifestyle costs of a location like Indonesia to turn a profit. But there are worse places than Mrs Sippy.Despite a rocky start which involved legal disputes over building permits, Mrs Sippy employs local staff and, in terms of the dream they are selling, is refreshingly upfront – chill in the sun, listen to nice tunes – pretend you’re in Bondi, but without the stress. Hidden Beach Green Bowl Ungasan

Hidden Beach Green Bowl is one of Bali’s most secluded beaches – a 30-metre coastal strip with coarse white sand, found at the bottom of a 75-metre-tall cliff. The steep descent down hundreds of steps is part of the appeal, attracting only adventurous weekenders and die-hard surfers favouring its uncrowded waves and exotic location.

Also among the features at Green Bowl Beach are 2 large limestone caves that enclose small rock shrines, and which also provide shade and shelter for beachgoers and surfers paddling in from their fun and thrills out on the waves.

The best time to go is during low tide, when the calm, crystal-clear waters allow for great snorkelling, with the fairly consistent waves a short paddle beyond a natural reef barrier. During high tide, most of this small beach gets flooded, sometimes even up to the base of the cliff and into the caves. Most people make their descent in the early mornings, to get the maximum amount of time out of their beach day.

Getting to Green Bowl Beach is relatively easy. Branching south off Jalan Dharmawangsa in Nusa Dua and onto Jalan Pura Batu Pageh leads you straight to the derelict Bali Cliff Resort. The temple is to the left of the resort’s entrance, with a parking lot at the temple’s foyer that is watched over by a local elder who serves as a ticket man. It costs about Rp 5,000 to park, with ample space available in front of the temple. Nearby are 4 small warungs selling snacks, cold drinks and fresh young coconuts – perfect for refreshing yourself after climbing the steps up from the beach.

There are many stories of how the beach got its unique name. As with many beaches and surf spots along the Bukit peninsula’s coast, surfers are usually responsible for their nicknames. The most likely inspiration for ‘Green Bowl Beach’ is the colour and curvature of the cliff that looms over the beach itself, and perhaps also the emerald patches of seaweed in its clear waters. Locals call the beach Pantai Pura Batu Pageh, after the temple.

The green cliffs and the densely forested flight of over 300 steps are home to hordes of grey long-tailed macaques, which are less cheeky than their neighbours in Uluwatu, next door. They’ll remain timid unless you deliberately hand them food, which is not advisable. The steep descent may be physically demanding for casual weekenders, but what you’ll find upon reaching the base will make it worth the effort. There are no lifeguards on duty here, so swim, snorkel and surf with caution.

Oneeighty edge pool Uluwatu

Oneeighty edge pool Uluwatu elevated 500 feet above the Indian Ocean.  The pool located at the Oneeighty day club at The edge resort in Uluwatu is not for the faint of heart.

The pool sits at the edge of a cliff, elevated 500 feet above the Indian Ocean. When swimmers reach one end of the pool, they can see that the bottom is made of transparent glass. They can also look down at the beach and ocean below while feeling the sensation of being afloat. The Instagrammable resort is quite the attraction for tourists. General admission costs 450,000 Indonesian rupiahs, which translates to about $27 US dollars. Over the years, infinity pools have become a social media status symbol, according to the Outline. Social media influencers commonly pose in pools that appear to have vanishing edges, in an effort to flex an upscale lifestyle.

“I’d say that an infinity pool is almost a requirement at a luxury hotel in 2018, especially at oceanfront properties where it’s key to make the most of the views,” Megan Wood, a travel editor, told the publication. “Everyone wants that shot where they’re alone in the infinity pool, back to the camera, looking out into the sea. A kidney-shaped pool just doesn’t bring the same drama.”

While the cost of visiting an infinity pool can be hundreds of dollars in the U.S., Bali offers numerous affordable options to tourists due to favorable exchange rates. Watch the clip above to see how surreal the experience of swimming in an infinity pool is.

Even if you are not the sporting type, you must take the time to spend a couple of nights in BaliTrekk and see, and learn, about the Real Bali that even expats that have lived here for years don’t realize exists.

Unlike other tourist sites, in Auman you will see eagles soaring around, experience unbelievable views and trekking, bird walks and get to meet the local people.

Bali trekking Mountain Outback is based on hight of 900 m, not as cold as Bedugul 1.200m, but only a short drive away. The temperature here is just perfect, not too hot and not too cold. So it only makes sense to stay here in comfort if you want to visit Bedugul.

Just a few of the reasons why you should visit BaliTrekk

The facilities cater to guests who enjoy good home cooking at its very best like you have never had before. Our dining room is a large room featuring a bar, dining area, and a relaxation area. All of our furniture has been hand-crafted from teak supplied by our own plantation. We also have a wood-fired pizza oven and a wooden baking oven for fresh bread and other delicacies baked daily. A small outside fitness area is located adjacent to the large outdoor deck and dining area.

And also have  large area where we are growing asparagus and also three large greenhouses with various vegetables. There is nothing as good as fresh vegetables from the garden.

So many reasons to go get over there.
