Overloaded Transport Tumbled – Jukung lost balance because of the items on the top. Jukung tilting to the right and some items fell into the sea.
Nusa Penida – A Sari Asih Jukung (boat) owned by Dewa Gede Oka, collapsed due to a loading and unloading at the Mentigi Traditional Port, Batunungul Village, Nusa Penida District, Klungkung, Tuesday (12/11) afternoon. There were no fatalities in this disaster. But the goods in the form of cement, groceries, and palms, in the belly of the Jukung, drifted into the sea.
It is suspected that the Jukung fell due to overload, especially at the top of the Jukung. Information from the location, this incident began when the Jukung belonged to Dewa Gede Oka, the address of Kusamba Village, Dawan District, Klungkung, departed from the Traditional Port of Banjar Bias, Kusamba Village towards the Traditional Mentigi Village, Batununggul Village, around 12:30 pm. Jukung loads full grocery items at the bottom and top. These daily necessities will be sold at the Mentigi Market. The Jukung leaned around 14:30 local time, then the workers unloaded the items at the bottom. As a result, the Jukung lost balance because of the items on the top. Jukung tilting to the right and some items fell into the sea.
Nusa Penida Police Chief Commissioner Komang Reka Sanjaya said, there were no fatalities in this disaster, only material losses of around 20 million Rupiahs. “When the incident of the sloping sea current, it is estimated that the Jukung was toppled because of loading and unloading,” he said. He said, the Syahbandar officer had banned the Jukung from loading goods on the top, even though they were light items such as palen-palen (grocery items). “But there are still Jukungs that depart with such loads,” he explained.
