Being the only team in the world that wears board shorts on the field helps cement the laid back, fun loving attitude that is typical of the Geckos.

The Bali Geckos, formed in 1997, are the island’s Australian Rules Football team and have been active in developing and introducing the game to local Indonesians, traveling foreigners, kids the great game of AFL. We are proud to announce the new Pink Geckos as our new women’s team starting this year 2019.
Training is held on Wednesdays at the Geckos Club, housed within the resplendent confines of The Finns Recreation Club. Juniors run from 3.30pm, the women’s team start at 5pm while the Seniors take the field at 6pm.

The Geckos host one the biggest football tournaments in Asia annually, “The Bali Masters” is in June this year with over 30 teams competing over 3 divisions to take home the best Masters team in Asia. This year the AFL Bali Masters carnival will be spread out over 3 days for the 35’s 47’s and Women’s competition.

The Geckos always enter the Asian Championships and have been runners-up 3 times to Asian powerhouses, Singapore and Hong Kong, but were joint winners in 2000 and 2002 when joining with Jakarta to form an Indonesian side.

In recent years the Geckos has seen a resurgence back to the top of Asian Footy with new Coach Rick Olarenshaw and Life Member Greg Hinchcliffe as President. The Bali Geckos recent success includes Division 2 AFL ASIA Champions 2016 and 2017, our new allegiance as the Indonesian Volcanos in 2018 proved to be very successful winning the converted Division 1 AFL ASIA tittle for 2018.

Our Masters team has proven to be just as successful as our Senior team, winning tournaments in Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and home here in Bali. This was all achieved in 2018 and we hope to repeat our performance in 2019!!

The Bali Geckos home ground is the fantastic Finns Recreation Club that boasts a number of facilities. In 2019 we will be holding training sessions on Wednesdays with the aim of starting Auskick for the kids at 3.30pm. The Pink Geckos (our new women’s team) has seen big numbers turn up to training in their first year and is a great way to meet new people and keep fit.

The Seniors run from 6pm (5.45pm for warm up) again it’s a great way to meet like minded people on the island who are either passionate about AFL or keeping fit, skills sessions are generally followed a by a practice match for a bit of fun and to get a kick!! Happy Hour follows at the Finns Recreation Club and is a great way to socialize with other members of the Bali Geckos Football Club.
