The video of the vigilante action which led to the death of the victim has been widely circulated on social media. One of the facebook accounts gives status to the video ‘Magic thief uses invulnerable knowledge, handcuffs don’t even work. Give him an inch and he will take a yard. ‘
From the video that was circulated initially, it was seen that the victim who wore red shorts was trying to escape when he was secured by the group of vigilantes while trying to avoid being bound.
Some well-built men tried to paralyze the victim’s movements by handcuffing his hands. But the victim managed to release his hands from the handcuffs. Because he managed to let go of his hands, some of the strapping men beat him by being punched and kicked him until the he was limp unconscious.
The Chairman of the Kuta Sector Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu I Putu Ika Prabawa, was confirmed on Saturday (1/25) yesterday afternoon to confirm the incident. He said the victim died after undergoing treatment at the Sanglah Province General Hospital in Denpasar. Furthermore Iptu Ika Prabawa said the victim could not be called the wrong party because he could not be proven to steal. Related to the incident, his party is still doing a deepening.
“The victim has died. True or not, that the victim stole, but one thing is certain in that new crime appears”, said Iptu Ika Prabawa. As for the CCTV footage along Legian Street, the man was in a daze.
“Meanwhile, mens rea (criminal elements) from suspected perpetrator of the helmet theft can not be found. Seen from CCTV along Legian Street, the person was confused”, Ika said.
Furthermore, Iptu Ika Prabawa revealed that his party was still waiting for the completion of the official report from the victim’s family. “There are legal steps from the victim’s family. We are currently in the process. For the complete identity of the victim will be delivered after everything is completed”, he said. He added, from witness statements that had been examined and conditions at the crime scene, there was a possibility of taking the helmet incorrectly.
“The problem is that the suspect’s helmet is the exact same as the other owner next to it, and only in different colors, the exact location when the suspect took the helmet also hasn’t been found”, he added.
