But from the report I received yesterday, from the 19 countries which were allowed to enter, there were indeed those who ordered hotels. Some of those countries had ordered up to 3 thousand, some had 2 thousand, some 1,500. From Europe, I had quite a lot. see. But if the total is November, the order is 20,000, which is already in November from yesterday,” said Koster.

Bali quarantine period reduced to 5 days

Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Public Relations Officer, Taufan Yudhistira, said that his party had not yet received an official Circular letter from the Ministry of Transportation regarding international flight permits in Bali. However, it has already received the confirmation from the national Covid-19 Task Force. We are still unable to accept international flights because according we received the official confirmation  of the Ministry of Transportation, international flights are still served by Soekarno Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, and Sam Ratulangi, Manado. Not yet for Bali says Taufan on Thursday (14/10/2021). However, Bali has been designated as the arrival gate for foreign nationals when referring to the national Covid-19 Task Force SE. So from that condition there are no international flights entering Bali today. There are no airlines that have proposed flights to Bali and departed from Bali,” he said. Taufan has not been able to predict how long this condition will occur. But according to him, although the Ministry of Transportation has circulated a new circular regarding international arrivals in Bali, tourist arrivals still depend on the airline. This goes back to the airlines their strategy for ticket commercialization, they have a special strategy for ticket sales,” he said. Taufan said that until now there has been no international flight permit from Ngurah Rai Airport. Even if there is, it is only special flights or charters for repatriation, which are included in special regulations.

The visa is being discussed and for the October 14 th 2021, we are waiting for the direction of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs to assign the Minister of Law and Human Rights to formulate a policy in terms of the right visa, which is suitable for this trial says Sandiaga. He hopes that some of the things mentioned earlier can be finalized in the near future. He also appealed to tourism actors to continue to apply strict and disciplined health protocols. After that, tourist destinations must immediately go all out to take advantage of this opportunity, don’t be careless in implementing health protocols. Don’t let these gradual, gradual, and sustainable incremental steps actually trigger an increase in new cases of Covid-19,” moreover, new variants have been identified,” he explained. He emphasized that compliance with health protocols for incoming foreign tourists is non-negotiable or non-negotiable. If there is a violation, there are stages that are passed with deportation as the end.

Sumatran elephants in Bali now Critically endangered

Sumatran elephants in Bali now Critically endangered in an elephant park forced  to close caused by the COVID-19 pandemic .You cannot imagine a skinny elephant until you see one,” said Femke Den Haas, a veterinarian from the Netherlands who has been working to protect wildlife in Indonesia for 20 years.“ They are big animals and you’re not meant to see their bones. But that’s what they were – just skin and bones.” Bali Elephant Camp (BEC) is a safari-style park, a half-hour drive north of Ubud, the Indonesian island’s cultural capital, that offered a range of nature-based activities like bike-riding through rice fields, and white-water rafting. In 2005, BEC joined a wildlife conservation program run by the Ministry of Forestry that entrusts privately-owned zoos and safari parks in Indonesia with the care of critically endangered Sumatran elephants. A 2007 study by the World Wildlife Fund found there were as few as 2,400 Sumatran elephants left in the wild, and the number now is thought to have halved as a result of poaching for ivory, human-elephant conflict, and deforestation. Between 1980 and 2005 – the equivalent of only one and a half elephant generations – 67 percent of the potential Sumatran elephant’s habitat was lost. In the wild, the animal was listed as ‘critically endangered’ in 2012.Sumatran elephants in Bali

The elephants for the parks and zoos are sourced from breeding centers established 30 years ago in Sumatra in a program  that was supposed to help stabilize the population. In exchange for giving the animals a home, accredited businesses were permitted to sell elephant-tourism services that were wildly profitable before the pandemic. BEC was charging $230 for a half-hour elephant ride for two people. The birth of three baby elephants over the past 15 years suggests BEC was not only meeting but exceeding its animal welfare requirements. “Our friends in conservation say we have some of the healthiest, happiest elephants they’ve ever seen!” the company’s website boasts. But photographs taken by a wildlife veterinarian at the park in May and shared exclusively with Al Jazeera showed several severely undernourished elephants.

The government is now allowing fitness centers and restaurants in cinemas to reopen with limited capacity and strict health protocols. A youth basketball competition in Jakarta and Surabaya is also allowed to proceed. Authorities reported 922 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the lowest since June 21, 2020. More than 4.2 million people in the country have tested positive for the virus, with 142,261 total fatalities, according to the health ministry data.

Bali announced new opening date July 6 2021

However, daily cases have plummeted from more than 56,000 at the peak of the second wave in mid-July this year to 1,100 cases on Oct. 3.

Health minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin had previously flagged reopening the popular resort island, saying foreign tourists could return after more than 70% of people on Bali had received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

The government has also signaled its willingness to reopen the island to international tourists to help revive Bali’s battered economy.

Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s biggest economy, exited its first recession in over two decades in the second quarter, though a COVID-19 resurgence and ensuing social restrictions likely weighed on the recovery momentum.

The partial reopening, however, does not include Australia — a key source of tourists before the pandemic.

Bali visa on arrival earliest from November 2022 to protect the island from new Covid-19 transmissions announced Sandiaga Uno, the Ministry of Tourism on Thursday 26/08/2021. He explained the reasons behind not choosing Bali as a destination for essential travelers . The essential traveler is a visit by foreign tourist in the context of essential business trips and official trips. Sandiaga said that Bali was not chosen as an essential traveler destination as an effort to protect the Island of the Gods. All of these want to protect Bali because they think there are many triggers for new transmissions from PMI [Indonesian migrant workers] who return to Indonesia, not accepting essential travelers as an effort to protect Bali,” he said, Thursday (26/8/2021). According to him, Bali is expected to be able to reduce Covid-19 cases so that economic recovery by opening international borders can be carried out immediately.

Bali focused on locals rather than foreign tourists

Bali focused on locals rather than foreign tourists says experts while overseas borders remained closed .  Hundreds of Australians were forced out of coronavirus-struck Bali earlier this month on board a special repatriation flight organized by the federal government and experts say the holiday island will never be the same again. In the past few weeks, as Indonesia grapples with soaring virus cases, almost 800 Australians registered their interest to leave Indonesia with Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs. To date, Indonesia has racked up nearly 3.9 million official coronavirus cases and more than 120,000 deaths. Indonesia has quickly become one of the worst hit nations, with experts suggesting local travel during the Islamic Eid holiday in May and the spread of the highly-contagious Delta variant are pushing case numbers up.

Bali focused on locals rather than foreign touristsDespite daily new infections in Indonesia appearing to trend down in August after hitting a high of more than 56,000 in July, Bali is in the midst of one of its worst outbreaks since the pandemic began. Prior to the pandemic, Bali attracted more than six million foreign tourist arrivals in 2019 alone and Australian and Chinese tourists making up more than half of that total. Domestically, 10.5 million Indonesian tourists visited Bali in 2019, while about 4.5 million travelled to the resort island in 2020. As an island reliant on international tourism, Bali moved to focus on attracting local visitors while overseas borders remained closed. Some say local tourists had been discriminated against prior to the pandemic, with the priority always on the international dollar.

But now, experts say the tourism sector will need to change their priority from overseas travellers to those holidaying domestically for months, maybe years to come. It’s time Bali stopped deifying foreign tourists, in the future after the pandemic it will be difficult to attract tourists because tourism competition will be even tighter between countries,” Nyoman Sukma Arida, a Tourism Faculty lecturer at the Udayana University, We’ve observed how Bali differentiates treatment between foreign and domestic tourists. But this doesn’t happen in other regions like Yogyakarta and Malang, where both tourists are treated equally,” Sukma said.

Bali still opening July when vaccination hits 70 %

All domestic air travel in Indonesia requires evidence of at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, except if you are travelling to transit to a departing international flight.  Currently, to enter Indonesia you must show evidence of full Covic-19 vaccination. These vaccination requirements also apply to children between the ages of 12-17.
