Semarapura – To prevent the return of foreign tourists from falling into the sea while traveling on Devil’s Tears, the Klungkung Tourism Office has installed a safety fence around the cliffs of the tourist attraction. Unfortunately, the efforts of Dispar Klungkung to protect tourists did not get appreciation from tourists.

For the sake of getting the best photos while traveling on Devil’s Tears, a number of foreign tourists determined to break through the security fence and take pictures on the cliff edge.

Head of the Klungkung I Regency Tourism Office Nengah Sukasta confirmed the ridiculous behavior of the foreign tourists. In fact, according to him, just when the security fence was installed, a number of tourists were caught passing the security fence to be able to take pictures on the edge of the cliff.

“Because I saw them taking photos, they finally returned”, said Sukasta. Not only installing safety fences, according to him, various efforts have been made so that tourists are not too close to the edge of the cliff. Like installing an appeal board, appealing to the tour guides to ask for help from residents and traders around the attraction to remind tourists not to get too close to the edge of the cliff.

Unfortunately, there are still many tourists who do not listen to the appeal, resulting in a number of tourists finally falling into the sea to death while taking pictures at the edge of the cliff of Devil’s Tears tourist attraction. “They are stubborn. We should not continue to be cornered”, he said.

For that reason, his party asked the tour guide to continue to oversee their tourists when traveling. So that there are no more tourists who fall because of crashing waves due to taking pictures on the edge of the cliff.

“Let’s remind each other. For the duty officer of the service we have not been placed there because we are still doing the arrangement. Gradually, we will definitely place officers there “, he explained.

Furthermore, he revealed, foreign tourists who often break through the security fence mostly Caucasian tourists. “Chinese tourists are even more orderly after we attach the security fence”, he said. To note, from 350-400 meters long lip of the Devil’s Tears tourist attraction, about 200 meters is a vulnerable point.

The 200 meters long cliff edge has been fenced off with funds sourced from the 2019 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget and 2019 Revised Budget.
