The visit of the minister’s group was welcomed by the Regent of Karangasem, IGA Mas Sumatri, who was enlivened by Hanoman dancers with Jegeg Bagus Karangasem on Wates Yeh Malet Beach, border with Klungkung.

On the sidelines of the reception, the Minister of Agriculture and his entourage also had a chance to visit the tourist attraction of the statue of Surya Candra that was recently been completed, before continuing the event at the residence of the Regent of Karangasem.

The meeting at the Karangasem Regent’s residence was also attended by a number of Karangasem DPRD members, the Head of Service, Acting. Karangasem Regional Secretary, Sub-District Chief, Expert Staff and Perbekel and representatives from a number of farmer and livestock groups.

Regent Mas Sumatri explained about one village one product agriculture and Karangasem’s excellent program, Nawa Satya Dharma. Regarding agriculture, Mas Sumatri wants to support the development of Preneur Village. “We want to support young entrepreneurs in the village and and support spiritual tourism based on customary villages and traditional products that we have worked on,” he said.

Mas Sumatri also explained that Karangasem has one of the largest cattle populations in Bali with approximately 127,000 head of cattle. “Also added by donations from the Director General, the development has now become 260 thousand head” he added.

In the future, the Regent of Mas Sumatri will pay more attention and develop agriculture, especially in the field of Corn and Cashew. The Minister of Agriculture also wants to see that Cashews from Karangasem can also be exported.

The Minister of Agriculture is ready to help Karangasem because, according to him, the greatest potential for agriculture development in Bali is Karangasem. Karangasem has good land potential and is especially good in the field of animal husbandry.

“Because Karangasem and the surrounding areas have good grass and develop high quality animal feed, the community and the local government have developed a successful capability to develop and grow agricultural commodities” he said.

He added, the responsibility would be in all villages, which according to him was a system that functionally had to be assisted by the ministry of agriculture. “Therefore, I am here with the regent’s mother who is also aggressively supporting the farming community develop faster. This time, I met with farmer groups and of course the local community to try to develop an agricultural concept and program this year and the years ahead are more optimal than what is available, “he explained.
