An Ice Seller Was Sentenced for 2 Years in Prison, Denpasar – I Wayan Soma alias Yeremia (45) looks surrender and he can only accept it when the judges sentence him for two years in prison. The man who sells ice was found guilty of recklessly stealing a bag that turned out it contains firearms belonging to a National Police Chief, I Ketut Maret.

The Public Prosecutor said he accepted the decision by the leader of the judges I Made Pasek. “We accept, Your Honor,” said prosecutor Cokorda Intan Merlany Dewie at the Denpasar District Court on Thursday (11/21).

The decision by the panel of judges was a year lighter than the prosecutors demanded. Previously, Prosecutor Cok Intan sued Soma for three years in prison.

While in the ruling, the panel of judges stated that the defendant Soma had been proven to be legitimate and was guilty of committing a criminal act of theft.

Therefore, Soma violated Article 362 of the Criminal Code. “To try and convict I Wayan Soma alias Jeremiah with two years prison sentence, it can be reduced depending on how the defendant is while in prison,” said Chief Judge I Made Pasek.

“The defendant has taken the item, in the form of 1 black leather bag containing one unit of HS-9 Cal 9X19, H190073 black made in Croatia, 4 bullets, ID card, SIM C (driving licence), KTA (Unsecured Loan Letter) of the Republic of Indonesia, and 3 ATM cards, wholly or partly owned by another person, namely the victim I Ketut March “, said Attorney Cok Intan.

Initially, the defendant visited Sakenan Temple only for praying. After finishing the prayer, the defendant walked around the car parking area and saw a green Daihatsu Taft Jeep DK 1904 RT parked with the condition that the front door was not tightly closed.

At that time there was an intention to carry out the action, moreover the situation in the parking area was quiet and dark. Then the defendant took a black leather bag that was kept under the car seat of the steering wheel side. After taking the bag, the defendant went and looked for a motorcycle taxi in the Suwung Bantak Kendal Bridge.

After that the defendant checked the contents of the bag and saw 1 firearm. Then the defendant took the firearm and slipped it around his waist while the bag and other contents in the bag he threw into the river.

After I Wayan Soma alias Jeremiah (45) got the bag containing the gun, the defendant then headed to Denpasar Kreneng Market. He immediately called the witness Kadek Darma to sell the firearm containing 4 bullets.

They also agreed to meet at Ida Bagus Mantra Bypass Road, right next to Klungkung Lepang Gas Station at around 21.00 Central Indonesian Time. The transaction took place, the defendant handed over the firearm and Kadek Sudarma handed over IDR 500,000.

“At around 00.00 Central Indonesian Time, the witness called the defendant and said he wanted to cancel to buy the firearm because it was original. Because it was late at night the defendant said he would meet the next day,” said Attorney Cok Intan.

The defendant and witness Sudarma met on 4 August 2019 near the Goa Lawah Klungkung Temple. Witness Sudarma also handed over the firearm to the defendant and then brought the firearm to Gor Lila Buana with the intention to hide it by burying it.
