AMLAPURA – After it was announced that all Gili Islands will be Closed (Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno) tourists were in mad rush to get back to Bali. The closure which will go into effect on Tuesday (17/3) had the immediate effect that almost all foreign tourists on the islands rushed to boats in an attempt to leave before the closure.

Head of the Tourism Office, I Ketut Sedana Merta, on Monday (3/16) confirmed that most of the tourists came from Bali to visit Gili Trawangan in Lombok. He said, based on information received from the local village heads, most of the tourists were trying to return to Bali because it was announced that the Gili’s would all be closed for tourist visits.

“The information we have is that tourists who want to go there Gili Trawangan is now a red zone and they will be rejected. As for tourists who were there, they are now coming to Bali through Padangbai” he said.

Sedana Merta added that he was not certain how many tourists came to Bali through Padangbai. He only heard that the most of the tourists planned to go to Sanur and Badung. “Most of them plan to go to Denpasar and Kuta,” he said.
